About MATT DEAN

Mr. Matt Dean is a Purdue University graduate with over 15 years professional consulting experience helping companies implement complex large scale custom software system projects. He is a hands on technical manager with the ability to mentor staff and share with them real world approaches to solving business problems through the use of Information Technology. Mr. Dean is known for his breadth of knowledge from legacy mainframe systems to modern programming environments and platforms. Prior to the year 2000 he founded a company that produced a programming language and reverse engineering tools that helped thousands of companies around the world mitigate the impact of Y2K. He has been an employee of high-caliber firms like Price Waterhouse and ADP-GSI. It was through working on substantial projects throughout the United States and Canada that he was able to develop a keen work ethic and a strong business accum. 1993 - Customer Information System/Commercial Power Billing Project

  • Designed and developed billing programs for co-generation, Power Authority State of New York, and Hourly Pricing during a Power Billing System Implementation at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in Syracuse, NY.
  • Conducted Joint Application Development sessions with users, analyzed tariffs and hourly billing calculations to develop the design for the Hourly Integrated Pricing programs.

  • Programmed Billing and Service Order modifications during a Billing System Implementation at Piedmont Natural Gas in Charlotte, NC.
  • Developed client-server programming components during a CIS Implementation at South Carolina Electric and Gas.

    1995 - Customer Information System/Billing System Project(s)

  • Audited and assisted in technical programming areas during a CIS Implementation at Consolidated Natural Gas in Cleveland, OH.
  • Led a 6-member data conversion team and conducted Joint Application Development sessions with users during a CIS Implementation project for Consumers Natural Gas in Toronto Canada.
  • Re-write of high volume bulk faxing Clipper application for Parafax.

  • Developed, marketed, and sold a COBOL reverse engineering tool - VACE.
  • Licensed technology to companies involved in legacy COBOL maintenance.
  • Developed interfaces from legacy insurance data sources to QuoteSmith.com's web system. The first company to sell insurance via the Internet.

    2000 - Fuels Management System, Financial Systems Upgrade
  • Developed Coal Quality Adjustment Reporting during the implementation of the Energy Softworx Fuels Management System. These reports and data warehouse interfaces are adjustments on over $1 Billion dollars worth of fuels contracts annually at the TVA.

  • Programmed custom modifications during the upgrade of the TVA's Walker Financials System. I was responsible for coding/testing modifications to the Check-writing, Purchasing, Receipts, and Fuels Invoicing modules. Also worked on interfaces from the TVA to the US Treasury.

     2001 - Supply Chain System Implementation
  • Managed the TVA's reporting team during the implementation of the Indus PassPort Supply Chain system and conversion from numerous in-house legacy systems. Developed reports to balance the real-time inventory system to the corporate G/L system (FERC 154).

     2002 - Custom Software Development Project(s)
  • Development of custom Java software to track Dam Safety instrumentation data for all of the TVA's Dams. Converted data from hundreds of spreadsheets and other data sources to create a consolidated data source for instrumentation data and a single application for engineers to use to maintain, manipulate, graph, and export data.
  • Custom Java software development and implementation of a Nuclear Work Planning system for the TVA's Browns Ferry Nuclear Restart project. Reduced work-plan creation time from 25hrs to 7hrs per work-plan.

    2009 - Project Manager for Mainframe Sunset Projects

  • Project Manager for the Mainframe Sunset Project supporting the IBM Maximo Supply Chain and Work Management Implmenetation Project at the Tennessee Valley Authority.

  • Responsible for managing several project teams tasked with rehosting Mainframe applications. These project teams migrate systems to Unix platforms with Oracle databases as well as develop new Informatica interfaces to feed data to and from these systems.
